Snetterton played host to round 6 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship in near perfect conditions. Rounds 16, 17 and 18 were drama packed and saw the young guns of the championship dominate whilst the more established members of the series suffered. Andrew Jordan showed true grit with his drive to victory in the second race, carbon monoxide fumes inside the car prevented progress in race three, and Andrew ended the day just nine points behind championship leader Matt Neal.

Andrew was carrying 36kgs of ballast into the event damping the expectations of qualifying. Despite the handicap, Andrew surprised himself and his team with a strong fourth behind the two MGs. In the opening race, Andrew battled hard with reigning champion Gordon Shedden on his way to a fighting fifth overall and at the flag he was right on the tail of the three cars ahead of him.

Once the drivers had felt their feet in race one it was full attack in race two, Andrew was engaged in a titanic battle with reigning champion Shedden. Once clear Andrew set his sights on the BMW of Turkington, into Oggie’s Corner the Ebay motors car left Andrew an opportunity and without a second guess he cut in tight to pull up alongside. Turkington tried to shut the door, but it was too late, the cars touched, sending Turkington wide and putting Andrew into a lead he took to the flag.

“What a fantastic race,” said Andrew. “I thought we could win that and it is a great result for Pirtek Racing. Colin was defending very well, but I got under him and he tried to close me down. That is really, really good for our championship campaign.”

After the reverse grid had been called Andrew started race three from P8 and was soon in trouble. Contact in the rear of the car deranged the exhaust down pipe and allowed fumes into the cockpit. Andrew continued to race inhaling the toxic exhaust fumes, finishing seventh in the end. Andrew sought medical attention after the race. Moving on to the next round at Knockhill Andrew has cut Matt Neal’s lead down to just 9 points, claiming a ten point advantage this weekend over the veteran.
